This study is divided into two parts. The first part is a semi-structured interview, which aims to deeply understand the survival dilemma of migrant workers in cities and sort out the negative life events in their daily life. The study conducted random interviews with migrant workers in Beijing and Tianjin, and completed 31 effective interviews, including 14 males and 17 females. The second part of the study was a questionnaire survey to explore the moderating effect of the belief in a just world on negative life events and subjective well-being of migrant workers in cities. The study was conducted in three urban villages in Beijing. A total of 300 valid questionnaires were collected, including 121 males and 179 females. The main results are as follows:1. In the interview, 26 negative life events encountered by migrant workers were summarized. On this basis, the “Negative Life Events Scale for Urban Migrant Workers” was compiled. There are 33 items in the scale, including family life, children's education, work and economy, society and life, health and safety. In this study, the internal consistency coefficient is 0.921. Using the developed scale, we found that the survival dilemma of urban migrant workers was mainly manifested in social security and medical treatment, work and economic and family life.2. There are demographic differences in gender, age and monthly income of migrant workers' belief in a just world. The total score of women's belief in a just world is higher than that of men's (p<0.05). The general belief in a just world of older migrant workers are higher than that of younger migrant workers (P<0.05). The total score of the belief in a just world (P<0.05) and the personal belief in a just world (P<0.01) of high-income migrant workers is higher than that of low-income migrant workers.3. Negative life events have a significant negative predictive effect on subjective well-being. Belief in a just world has a significant positive predictive effect on subjective well-being. And belief in a just world has a moderating effect on negative life events of migrant workers and subjective well-being.
