Workplace bullying is one of the focuses of organizational behavior research in recent years. Previous studies have shown that it is not only an important factor affecting employees' career performance, but also affects employees' life happiness, physical and mental health, and even their sleep quality. However, it is a pity that the mechanism of workplace bullying on sleep quality is still unclear in China, and the potential intervention measures have not been explored. Therefore, in order to further explore the mediating mechanism and possible regulating mechanism of the impact of workplace bullying on employees' sleep quality, three studies were carried out in this paper:
Preliminary study: This study completed the revision of the Chinese version of the Work-Related Rumination Scale, and recruited 870 on-the-job employees as subjects on an online platform to revise the English version of the Work-Related Rumination Scale. The results showed that: The revised work Rumination Scale has good reliability and validity, and meets the requirements of psychological statistics. It can be used as a tool to measure the level of problem-solving pondering and affective rumination of in-service employees.
Study 1:This study examined the effect of workplace bullying on sleep quality and the mediating role of problem-solving pondering and affective rumination between the two. The research sample is the same as the preliminary study, adopt the method of cross-sectional study, using the Chinese version of the Negative Acts Questionnaire Revised (NAQ-R), the Work-Related Rumination scale(WRR,the Karolinska Sleep Questionnaire (KSQ) for related research subjects. We investigated the effects of workplace bullying on sleep quality and the mediating roles of affective rumination and problem-solving pondering. The results showed that: (1) workplace bullying can directly affect sleep quality, i.e. the more employees perceive workplace bullying, the worse sleep quality of employees; (2) Workplace bullying can also indirectly affect sleep quality through the mediating effect of affective rumination, that is, the more employees perceive workplace bullying, the more affective rumination, the worse sleep quality.
Study 2: This study examines the moderating role of psychological detachment in mediating relationships demonstrated in study 1 .In this study, questionnaires were issued through the network platform and three rounds of longitudinal survey were adopted to obtain 436 on-the一ob employees. The psychological detachment level of the subjects was measured by the Chinese version of recovery Experience Questionnaire (REQ一C). The results showed that :(1) psychological detachment moderated the relationship between workplace bullying and affective rumination. In other words, when the level of workplace bullying was low, people with high psychological detachment ability had less affective rumination, but when the level of workplace bullying was serious, there was no significant relationship between psychological detachment ability and affective rumination; (2) Further analysis showed that a mediation model was significant.
The results of this study not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanism of workplace bullying's impact on employees' sleep quality, but also provide possible intervention strategies for improving employees' mental and physical health in the future.
