其他摘要 | Awe is a unique emotional experience of human beings, and it is also the survival wisdom that our ancestors have accumulated in the process of living with nature for thousands of years. In the traditional culture of our country, sages of past generations have published many articles and thoughts about "awe" . In the West, awe has been having much to do with theology, philosophy, and sociology. In the field of psychology, with the development of positive psychology, more and more scholars at home and abroad have paid increasingly more attention to awe, and they have explored the influences of awe from aspects such as physiological changes, self-cognition, and social behavior. The research themed with awe and self-concept shows that awe deemphasizes the self, enables people to attach less importance to themselves, and turns their attention to larger entities, which integrates them with communities and urges them to take part in social activities more actively. In recent years, the "small selp' has been the mainstream view given by many scholars who have been engaged in the research on the relationship between awe and self-concept.
However, this study insists that the effect of awe on self-development deserves further explanation. Above all, the self has rich and multi-level connotations, and it should not be confined to the one-dimensional concept of the small self or the big self. Second, the characteristic that human beings are interdependent determines that self-concern and other-concern may not be mutually exclusive and may even be consistent. Third, views on the small self fail to fully explain the ability of awe to transform the spiritual world of individuals. Therefore, this study proposes a hypothesis model to modify the "small self ', which links awe to the enriched self-concept "the quiet ego". Self-awareness, related to self-consciousness, is added to this model as a mediating variable, and Perceived Social Support, related to individual resources, as a moderating variable. In this way, a moderated mediating model about the influence of awe on self-development is built to explore the positive effect of awe on self and its role in promoting individual balance and growth.
This study takes 618 adults as subjects and uses Dispositional Positive Emotion Scales-Awe Scale, Quiet Ego Scale, Situational Self-Awareness Scale and Perceived Social Support Scale for the expected measurement. The results show that awe positively affects the level of quiet ego, self-awareness plays a partial mediating role between awe and the quiet ego and perceived social support positively moderates the influence of awe on self-awareness. It can be seen that awe can be a motivator to promote individual development and growth. It allows individuals to break through the boundaries of their original consciousness, re-evaluate the relationship between themselves and the world from a broader perspective, and clarify their deep ideas and goals, so as to promote individual balance and growth. Awe does not weaken but deepens the self. This study theoretically complements and refines the views on the "small self' in previous studies. In practice, it provides a psychological basis and method for awe to change from a traditional concept and survival wisdom to a rational choice for the survival and development of contemporary people and puts forward ideas and suggestions for the social spirit construction in the post-pandemic era. |
