This study aimed to examine the differential effects of challenge and hindrance stressors on driving behavior within the framework of the challenge-hindrance stressors model, as well as the mediating role of stress appraisals. Self-reported data were collected from 251 employees at one company in China over three time points. The results of a structural equation analysis revealed a positive relationship between hindrance stressors and aggressive driving. This relationship was mediated by hindrance appraisals. Additionally, challenge appraisals were found to be negatively associated with aggressive driving, despite the negative relationship between challenge stressors and challenge appraisals. This research highlights the significance of stress appraisals in understanding the relationship between stressors and subsequent driving tendencies.
